great grandpa moser visit

Last Saturday we were able to go visit Great Grandpa Moser in Lincoln. Mom went with us, and we just went for the day. Evalana really enjoyed seeing Grandpa, and I think Grandpa liked his time with Evalana, too. They stared at each other while they ate lunch, and Evalana even convinced Grandpa to play catch with her a little. Of course Evalana loves Grandpa's cat, Tiger, and Uncle David brought Spicy over, too. We also took a brief visit to the library and playground by Grandpa's house. It was a beautiful fall day. And we came home with two huge grocery sacks filled with tomatoes we picked in Grandpa's garden. We just made chili with some of them this evening. I'm so thankful we were able to go visit him before we're now at home until Lazarus is ready to travel. We're still hoping Lazarus might convince Grandpa to make a trip to Kansas City over Christmas, though.
Also, I haven't been able to find our camera since we got home from Lincoln, so I'll have to post pictures later.

Great Grandpa Moser

Last week we found out that Great Grandpa Moser has melanoma (skin cancer) in his brain and lung. He's 90 years old, and he seems to have been ready since my grandma died right before evalana was born, but we're still sad that our time with him here is coming to an end. When the doctor told him the news, he said, "well darn." then he got in the car with my uncle doug, and he said, "if you decide to get rid of the blue van, make sure you take the tools out from underneath the seat before you sell it." very grandpa. we'll try to take a trip to lincoln soon so that lazarus can meet his great grandpa moser.

great grandpa moser

While we were in Arkansas and Joplin this month, Joshua got to spend a little time getting family information from his Grandma Vaughn and his Grandpa Johnson. He got some really good stories, including a great story about his great aunt getting named--hopefully he'll be able to share some of those stories soon. When Evalana was born, we gave all the grandparents a Grandparent's Legacy book for them to fill out. I got Great Grandpa Moser's (my mom's dad) book back after he died, and i finally got pictures taken of the pages to post to share with family. In his being diagnosed with cancer when he was 90, we had the blessing of realizing we had limited time left with him here, and i'm thankful to everyone who helped Grandpa fill out a little more of his book. Grandpa was always full of stories, so hopefully we can continue to collect more to pass on to his great grandchildren.

visiting Great Grandpa Moser

Yesterday we went to visit my grandpa in Lincoln, which is about a 3-hour drive. We left early in the morning, hoping to get to Lincoln about the time Evalana would be waking up, but Evalana decided to be awake for part of the drive, although she actually did okay most of the way there. We got to visit Grandpa and some other family, and it was great to see them. We tried to leave at Evalana's afternoon nap time, but Evalana decided to cry a lot of the way home. She stopped crying when we let her out of her car seat to drive, though.

Happy Fourth of July!

Saturday morning my mom, Evalana, Samson, and I headed for Lincoln to visit my grandpa. Usually we go to Joshua's grandparents' lake in Oklahoma for the Fourth, but I wasn't brave enough to make the drive with Evalana by myself this time, so we got to celebrate the Fourth of July with Great Grandpa Moser, Great Uncle David, and Grandma instead. We watched the neighbors set off a few things in the street, and then we went to bed at 8:30 with the windows open, and somehow Evalana and I slept great through all of the festivities. We had a great time hanging out with Grandpa and David.

picnic table

Grandpa Greg made Evalana a picnic table for her birthday and a fun scavenger hunt for her to find it at her party Saturday. The weather was beautiful this weekend, and this evening we broke in the new table with leftover pink lemonade birthday cake and strawberry rhubarb pie that evalana and i made this afternoon with some of Great Grandpa Moser's rhubarb.

vbs this week

We had quite a busy weekend with Great Grandpa Moser's funeral and some great time with family in Lincoln. More about that later. This morning we started VBS at church. Here are the pictures from Lazarus's classroom, where I'm teaching: http://wfcvbs2011babies.shutterfly.com/. Evalana also had a great time in her two-year-old class.

sharing

Evalana believes that the only thing better than corn puffs is sharing corn puffs. Her Great Uncle David and Great Grandpa Moser came for a visit last weekend. David brought his Chihuahua, Spicy, with him. Evalana is used to her 80-pound doggies and was fascinated by this little dog.

One other note. Evalana has enjoyed every animal she’s been around (even those nibbling baby goats). My mom has a cat, Joey, who likes to attack me. Evalana’s not really been around him, but Joey came into the yard while she was outside, and Evalana clung to me and cried while Joey was around. Smart girl.

road trips and relatives

Last Sunday we went to Nebraska City to see some of my family. We got together with my dad’s family for lunch and a walk, and then part of my mom’s family also came to Nebraska City to meet Evalana. Evalana especially enjoyed looking at the trees and meeting Great Grandpa Moser.
Yesterday we took another day trip. This time we went to Rocky Comfort and Joplin, Missouri. We left early, and Evalana slept the whole way there. She woke up when we got to church. She likes both mornings and outside, so she was especially happy when she woke up under the trees (video below).

day 13 - eye doctor and deanna rose

I'm tired, and it's late, so I'll update this post with pictures some other time. Evalana wasn't in a great mood today and napped extra, so she ended up staying up later than usual. She finally fell asleep just laying on the couch by herself (usually she cuddles with me) and watching her videos on the computer. This morning we went to the eye doctor for both of us to have exams. She cried and clung to me through my exam, so she wasn't about to look at the doctor when it was her turn, so no exam for her today. At least I got my new contacts prescription so I can go get more contacts. This evening we went to Deanna Rose farmstead and enjoyed seeing all the animals. The weather wasn't too bad, either--i think upper 80s by the time we got there around 6:30, which is much better than the 120 heat index in the middle of the day earlier this week. We've just been hiding out indoors most the time with this heat. So thankful for our air conditioner! That's all I can think of about today for the moment. Tomorrow morning Evalana, Mo, and I are heading to Lincoln to visit Great Grandpa Moser, and we'll be back Saturday evening, so I'm not sure I'll be able to post anything while we're gone.

Making a little ocean in a bottle, which she insists is pop for daddy

She decided to spit her blueberries into her muffin tin, and I thought it was too funny not to take a video of, while trying not to encourage it.

asleep on the couch before i carry her up to bed

Tomorrow Joshua finishes up their time at the school. Saturday they do some adventure at Oribi Gorge and then stay overnight at a hostel near durban. Then Sunday morning they start their 44-ish hour journey home.
Today Joshua said: "Class went great. Great conversation with some guys afterwards. Horrible organization on the part of the testing workers (folks not affiliated with our group). They didn't seem to be as concerned with getting as many kids tested as possible as I thought they should be. The pic is of mom and some girls she is impacting."
"We had a pretty amazing day here. Our ministry at the school went well, despite the fact that the testers were not prepared to handle the demand. We are all hoping that they will follow up with these kids again and test them soon. Beyond that, I was able to have a conversation with about 4 or 5 boys about how they can change even when change seems impossible. They want to change. I told them that the only way I changed was when I strated to really trust Jesus - then He changed me. We talked for a while and the stage seems set to really have a good, eternal life saving conversation with them tomorrow. So that's what I'm praying for tonight."
And his team submitted another post to http://global.westsidefamilychurch.com/, although I haven't seen it up yet.
